Philadelphia Gluten-Free Food Examiner rates this: 5 STARS If you happened to be in the bakery department of the ACME in King of Prussia yesterday, you might have seen me doing a happy dance. (If not, I’m glad you were spared!) The reason for my happiness? The ACME is carrying gluten free Shabtai Gourmet foods! I first learned about Shabtai at the GF food expo last fall. I sampled their goodies and was thrilled with them, but then subsequently saddened to learn that they were not available in any local stores. But now they’re here, and I’m happy again!
Shabtai makes delicious gluten free baked goods that you might remember from your pre-GF days. Black and White cookies, Rainbow cookies (the ones that look like little bitty cakes with rainbow stripes), Lace cookies, Marble Cake. Their Swiss Chocolate Roll is a dead-ringer (taste-wise) to those gluten-full faves, Ring Dings. Not only is everything baked in a dedicated gluten free facility, but all the products are also casein free, lactose free, soy free and dairy free and all are Certified Kosher for Passover and Kosher Parve. Shabtai Gourmet can be found at local ACME stores, and also the Wegmans in Collegeville, East Norriton’s Shop Rite and Hennings Market in Harleysville. Some smaller, specialty markets are carrying Shabtai’s goodies, such as Harry’s Natural Food Store on Cottman Ave (215-742-3807) and Poppy’s Seed Bakery in Chestnut Hill (215-242-4252) and Martindale’s Natural Market in Springfield. If you don’t see it where you shop, by all means, ask for it!
